California Lady Pintos soccer took on the Sacred Heart Gremlins on Monday night in Sedalia.
The Gremlins scored the first goal of the game just before the 32 minute mark of the first half. They added two more in the first half before the end of the first half. Although California made a strong push for a goal to end the half, they came up empty-handed. Sacred Heart led 3-0 at halftime.
California forward Marisol Perez had an opportunity to get California on the board when she got a free shot kick. However, the ball went off the crossbar and Sacred Heart scored three more goals in the second half. The Gremlins held the Lady Pintos scoreless again in the second half. The final shots on goal in the game were 22 to five in favor of Sacred Heart.
They came away with the 6-0 win over California.
The Lady Pintos' record is now 0-5.
Despite the loss, California head coach Anny Roll said her team is showing strong signs of improvement from game to game. Throughout the upcoming spring break, Roll and her staff will look to make the necessary changes to get California in the win column.
"We knew that we were going to have some growing pains coming into our first season, but last night's game was very frustrating. We had our opportunities, but we made things difficult for ourselves more than they made things harder for us," Roll said. "We've spent a lot of time on defense in our first five games and we'll need to change that. We are getting better with each game. The frustrating part is it hasn't translated into wins yet. We're going to take time over spring break to rest and come up with some strategies that hopefully will get us the results were aiming for."
The Lady Pintos will get another crack to get their coveted first win at Osage on Tuesday.
