Jefferson City Man Dead Following Shooting in Miller County

On December 1, 2010, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Troop F

officers were requested to assist in locating a suspect allegedly involved

in brandishing a weapon and holding a female subject hostage in his

vehicle. The incident occurred in California, MO. The female was able to

escape the vehicle, and the California Police Department initiated a

pursuit, but was unable to stop the vehicle. The suspect was identified as

William H. Redel, 51, of Jefferson City, MO.

At approximately 9:43 p.m., troopers located the suspect

vehicle at Fine Food Randles Court Motel in Eldon, MO. As the troopers

approached the motel room, they observed the suspect in the doorway with a

gun. Shots were fired and the suspect was later located in the motel room

severely injured by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect

was transported from the scene by ambulance to the Eldon Airport for

airlift to University Hospital in Columbia, MO. However, he was pronounced

dead prior to being airlifted. There were no other injuries during the

incident.
