California Cross Country runners advance to state championships

The California High School varsity cross country team competed at the Class 2 District 7 Meet at Holden Saturday, where two Pintos and two Lady Pintos qualified to advance to the Class 2 State Championships Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City.

California's Elizabeth Kirby Devon Huff, Ashlee Davis and Don Figgins earned All-District honors as each was among the top 15 individual finishers and therefore qualified to advance to the State Championship Meet at Jefferson City Saturday.

"We had another good meet at districts," California Coach Josh Grotzinger said. "It was a long, tough course and all the kids put in a great effort, finishing in front of people they hadn't beat all year."

Grotzinger added, "Devon Harms had another good meet and scored big for us. Dakota Harris and Nathan Thibon each passed three or four guys in the last few hundred meters to help out as well. Devon Huff and Don Figgins did great for us. Don was ranked sixth or seventh coming into the meet and finished second. Devon was ranked 17th and came in 11th. They both did a good job on a tough course."
