Highway 50 / Route U collision fatal

A Friday collision in Cole County at the intersection of Highway 50 and Route U resulted in fatal injuries to a California woman and seriously injured a Stover man.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the collision occurred at 2:49 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, when a southbound 2007 Chevrolet, driven on Route U by Andree L. Ziehmer, California, was struck in the passenger side by an eastbound 1993 Kenworth, driven by Brian L. Libbee, Stover.

Ziehmer was transported to St. Mary's Health Center where she was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. Libbee was transported to University Hospital by Staff for Life in serious condition. Both were reported to have been wearing seat belts.

The Patrol reported the collision occurred after the southbound vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed the westbound lanes of Highway 50 and was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes when it was struck in the side.

The Kenworth, reported to have been a dump truck, also overturned.
