CMS Lady Pintos win matches against Lady Mustangs

The California Middle School volleyball teams traveled to Eldon Sept. 27, where the eighth grade Lady Pintos won their match 25-16 and 25-20.
"The girls played awesome throughout both games," CMS Coach Jennifer Porter said. "Serves were great. The girls were also consistent with bump, set, spike and there were also some awesome spikes. I was very proud of how we played."
Kelsey Roush led California in the first game with 10 service points and seven bumps, followed by Morgan Henley with five. Paige Halsey had eight bumps.
Kamryn Koetting led the Lady Pintos in the second game with seven service points, followed by Abby Strickfaden with five service points and nine bumps. Roush also had nine bumps, while Halsey had seven.
The seventh grade Lady Pintos won their match against Eldon 14-25, 25-22 and 25-3.
Madilyn Safley led the Lady Pintos with 20 serves, followed by Adrienne Strickfaden with 13. Safley had 15 successful bumps and Strickfaden had 13. Safley had 17 sets, followed by Madison Taggart with five. Ashtyn Goans had eight spikes, followed by Taggart with three.
"I was really proud of how the girls fought during the second game to protect their serves and turn a loss into a win," CMS Coach Tiffany Brown said.
The CMS volleyball teams hosted Thomas Jefferson Sept. 28, where the eighth grade Lady Pintos lost 20-25 and 20-25.
"The girls played well on and off throughout the game," Porter said. "There were a few miscommunications throughout the game that caused points for the other team. The girls have been working hard regarding talking on the floor. Service was also pretty good during both games."
Roush and Strickfaden led California in the first game with six service points each, while Strickfaden also had one hit. Koetting had six bumps and Henley had two sets.
Roush led the Lady Pintos in the second game with seven service points. Strickfaden had six bumps while Henley had seven sets. Koetting chipped in with four spikes.
The seventh grade Lady Pintos won their match against Thomas Jefferson 25-13 and 26-24.
Safley led serving with 15, followed by Goans, Kelly Sommerer and Taggart with four each. Safley also had nine bumps, followed by Katie Imhoff and Strickfaden with seven each. Safley had 12 sets, followed by Goans with three. Rozalyn Martensen and Strickfaden each contributed three spikes.
"The second game was pretty intense," Brown said. "Even though we have enough girls to make two separate teams, we got each player in so they had a chance to shine at the first home game."
California will host Versailles Thursday, beginning with the seventh grade match at 5:30 p.m.
