Lady Pintos take second place finish at District Golf Tourney

California's varsity girls' golf team participated in the Class 1 District 3 Golf Tournament Sept. 29 at Redfield Golf Course, Eugene, where the Lady Pintos finished in second place with 415, behind Southern Boone with 386.

With the placement, California was set to advance to Class 1 Sectionals Wednesday (Oct. 6) at Silo Ridge Golf Club, Bolivar.

California's Tanner Roberts, Andrea Knipp and Missy Gerhart earned All-District honors as each finished district competition in the top 15 individually. Roberts placed sixth with 94; Knipp, ninth with 100; and Gerhart, 10th with 103.

"Tanner, Andrea and Missy continued their consistent play, but Margret Mace also really came up big today," California Coach Lance Conner said. "She didn't achieve All-District honors, but recorded her low score of the year in an 18-hole match. She really picked us up for our fourth score. When you get to this point in the year, you are just trying to survive and move on. We are happy to be moving on to sectionals, but we need to eliminate some course management errors, then our scores should come down. We are not content with a sectional appearance and hope to play solid smart golf to continue on to state."

The top two teams and the top 12 individual golfers at sectionals will advance to the Class 1 State Championships Oct. 18-19 at Rivercut Golf Course, Springfield.
