Street repaving begins in City of California

Repaving of several of the streets began Tuesday, Oct. 5, by Jefferson Asphalt. The overlay follows the milling which has been very noticeable by drivers in the city.

The asphalt overlay work includes all or part of Lake Drive, Howard Street, East Street and Rice Street. Although other streets, such as Latham Road, will have an asphalt overlay, this is part of the work to repair the streets after extensive sewer work rather than a simple overlay.

The City of California Board of Aldermen approved on July 6 for the work to be done by Jefferson Asphalt after the bids from three companies were compared and discussed.

The total cost, including the base bid and the cost of probable additional street overlay work, amounted to $433,502.12, for the regular overlay work, but does not include the repairs due to sewer work repair.
