California's Knipp advances to state golf championships

The California High School varsity girls golf team participated in the Class 1 Sectional Golf Tournament Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Silo Ridge Golf Club, Bolivar, where the Lady Pintos finished in fourth place with 422 out of six teams.

California's Andrea Knipp tied for third place individually with 90 to advance to the Class 1 State Golf Championships Oct. 18-19 at Rivercut Golf Course, Springfield.

California's Tanner Roberts finished with 104; Missy Gerhart, 114; Ellie Hamilton, 114; and Margret Mace, 123.

Southern Boone County finished sectionals in first place with 378, followed by Mount Vernon with 409, Nevada with 415, Carl Junction with 423, and Logan-Rogersville with 431.

"It was a difficult day for our girls," California Coach Lance Conner said. "They played a solid practice round and seemed to have a good mindset going into it, but we just didn't play well. We had a tremendous season, and this is not the way I envisioned it ending, however, we're excited for Andrea, who played a tremendous round of golf and will represent our school well at state."

Conner added, "I can't think of a better way to end your season as a senior than to go to the state championships and play the best golf of your season. I truly feel for our girls who didn't qualify, but they are a terrific group of girls and this will hopefully make them work harder in the off-season to get ready for next year."
