Jamestown Lady Eagles end season with loss to New Franklin

After defeating Bunceton 9-4 in first-round action at the Class 1 District 7 Softball Tournament Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Pilot Grove, Jamestown, seeded third, advanced to semifinals Thursday, where the Lady Eagles suffered a tough 17-8 loss to second-seeded New Franklin.
Morgan Imhoff recorded the loss for the Lady Panthers with eight strikeouts. Taylor Johnson led Jamestown hits with three and three RBI, followed by Taylor Muri with four hits. Robyn Eschenbrenner contributed a double, two singles and two RBI, while Paige Reimler had a double and two singles. Morgan Imhoff and Lauren Imhoff each had two singles as well.
"We struggled defensively in parts of this game and it really came back to hurt us," Jamestown Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said. "Overall, we hit the ball well and pitched well, it just wasn't enough tonight."
New Franklin went on to play Pilot Grove for the district championship Saturday, and lost 10-0.
Regarding Jamestown's 9-4 win against Bunceton in the district opener, Hirschvogel said, "We played well in most facets of the game."
Morgan Imhoff recorded the win with a season-high 12 strikeouts. Eschenbrenner led hits with four and 1 RBI, followed by Reimler with three hits and one RBI. Monica Dietzel had two hits and three RBI, while Morgan Imhoff had two hits and one RBI.
"It was good to see the bottom of the lineup driving in some runs," Hirschvogel said. "Senior Paige Reimler had a really strong game, both hitting and behind the plate."
The Lady Eagles end the season 6-3.
"The girls have had a great season," Hirschvogel added. "They won the CCAA Tournament and improved along the way. I think the future looks very promising for our program."
