Lady Pintos fall 8-1 to top-seeded Lady Pirates at district semifinals

After defeating Versailles 10-9 in the first round of the Class 3 District 13 Softball Tournament Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Warrensburg, California, the fourth seed, faced top-seeded Boonville in semifinal action Thursday, Oct. 7, where the Lady Pintos were defeated 8-1 by the Lady Pirates.

"Elle pitched well and kept us in the Boonville game," California Coach Jack Lake said. "We just lacked the defense."

Regarding California's district opener against Versailles, Lake said, "Rachel Oerly, Taylor Ratcliff and Tiffany Carel had good hits against Versailles and Elle had two that hit the fence."

Versailles brought four runs home in the first inning, however, the Lady Tigers then struggled on the pitching mound, and allowed the Lady Pintos to rack up nine runs to lead 9-4 going into the second inning. The Lady Tigers added four runs in the second inning to trail 9-8.

California added one run in the fifth inning and Versailles added one in the sixth to trail 10-9. A scoreless seventh inning left the win with the Lady Pintos, 10-9.

"This was the third time we played Versailles this year," Lake said. "Since they beat us once 11-4 and we beat them once 12-5, this was like a deciding three-series game in which we came out on top."

The Lady Pintos end the season 7-13.

Boonville went on to defeat Warrensburg 5-0 to capture the district championship.
