More sewer smoke tests being conducted in city

The City of California and Bartlett and West Engineers will be conducting smoke tests in the northwest part of California on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 28 and 29.

Door hangers are being left at the residences in the area to be tested.

The smoke is whitish to gray in color, non-toxic, and does not stain. It has no odor and does not create any fire hazard.

It should not be seen inside any of the structures in the area of the test unless there is a problem with the plumbing or if the drain traps are dry.

Residents are cautioned that if the test smoke enters the home, there is a good chance sewer gases are entering the home, too.

The area being tested is in the part of town west of Highway 87 and Route O north of Business 50.

The door hangers advise, "If anyone in the home or business has respiratory problems and is immobile, please notify us as 573-634-3181."
