Russellville wins district volleyball opener at Hallsville

The Russellville High School varsity volleyball team opened action at the Class 2 District 7 Volleyball Tournament Monday with a match win against Centralia.

The Lady Indians, seeded fourth, won 25-12 and 25-9 to advance to semifinals Tuesday against top-seeded Fatima.

“The girls brought it,” Russellville Coach Amy Messerli said. “They were relaxed, ready to play and they got the job done and never looked back.”

Results from Russellville’s semifinal match were not available at press time.

Messerli said this is the first year the Lady Indians have made it past the first round of districts in Russellville’s six-year volleyball program. “I’m very proud of the girls for staying focused and for keeping the intensity the entire game.”

The district championship match was scheduled to follow semifinals Tuesday, however, results were not available at press time.
