Sod placed on Tipton school playground

At the regular monthly Board meeting Oct. 11, Tipton R-VI School Superintendent Scott Jarvis thanked the City of Tipton and individuals for their help installing the sod on the playground.

He also informed the Board that the school district will again receive a "Distinction in Performance" award. The audit in under way and will be completed in the next month or two.

Elementary school student enrollment at the time of the Board meeting was presented as 269, with September attendance at 97.17 percent, down slightly from the 97.36 percent attendance reported the previous year. Principal Kelly Kohler reported the use again this year of Character Education Words. The word for September was "Respect." The October word is "Responsibility."

In the elementary school this year, several large red "H's" are located in the hallways and cafeteria. The letters are used to remind the students remember three rules -"Hands to Self," "Head Forward" and "Hush."

High school attendance was 322, counting 87 seventh and eight grade students, 220 nine through 12 grade students and 15 St. Andrew's School students. The attendance rate was 96.1 percent for September, slightly lower than the 96.2 percent attendance for the same month last year.

The Board approved the Goals established for the district for the year after review and discussion.
