During the December Court of Honor Ceremony held Monday, Dec. 19, longtime scouter and volunteer Richard Schroeder was honored by Troop 120 and the City of California naming the scouthouse in his honor.
The Cole County R-1 School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec. 26. Under new business, the Board voted to approve the consent agenda as presented. The Board approved a payroll fund transfer of $189,000.

California’s varsity boys faced off with the Moberly Spartans Tuesday afternoon at the Missouri National Guard Shootout at Fleming Fieldhouse, where the Pintos secured a 43-40 win, thanks to a last-second 3-pointer shot by senior Taron Morris.

The California varsity and JV girls basketball teams traveled to Russellville Dec. 19, where the varsity Lady Pintos turned up the heat in the last minutes of the fourth quarter to win a very close contest against the Lady Indians, 58-51.
The winner of the Bonnie Plants Missouri $1,000 scholarship for 2011 is California student fourth grader Amber Trachsel, daughter of Darrell and Amy Trachsel.

The Russellville High School varsity girls basketball team participated in the Versailles Tournament Dec. 12-16, where the Lady Indians ultimately won the championship. Russellville defeated Waynesville 58-46 in the opening round of the tourney Dec. 12.
The California Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team participated in the Jefferson City Eighth Grade Tournament Dec. 12-14 at Thomas Jefferson School, where the Lady Pintos ultimately lost the championship game 42-27 to West Jr., to finish in second place.
California's freshman girls basketball team traveled to Camdenton Thursday night, where the Lady Pintos captured a 33-17 win.

California's varsity girls basketball team traveled to Russellville Monday night, where the Lady Pintos captured a 58-51 win.
California's varsity boys basketball team hosted Stoutland Monday night, where the Pintos defeated the Tigers 68-57.

California's varsity boys' basketball team traveled to Grain Valley Saturday, where the Pintos suffered a 48-35 loss.
Saturday, December 17
California's varsity girls traveled to Springfield Friday night, where they suffered a 71-52 loss to Hillcrest.
A police pursuit ended in Cole County early Saturday with officers taking a wounded male suspect into custody.
Wednesday, December 14
The California Pintos traveled to Hermann Tuesday night, where they lost a close contest, 38-35.
With only five and a half months left of the school year, seniors are getting anxious for graduation.
Cole County R-1 School Board Meets
The Greater Lake Area Chorale presented "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" a free concert as part of their 2011 Holiday Concert Series at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Russellville, on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Tuesday, Dec 6, California JV played Cole Camp. The JV performed very well, and overall as a team it was a very good effort.
Many students gathered in the Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, December 7 to see if they have what it takes to make the cut for the Spring Play, Harvey.

The California Middle School seventh grade girls basketball team recently claimed back-to-back wins with a 39-4 victory at Warsaw Dec. 1, following a 40-27 win at home against Blair Oaks Nov. 29.
The California Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team hosted Sedalia Thursday night at California High School, wehre the Lady Pintos captured a 47-8 win.
California's varsity girls basketball team was on the road last week, where the Lady Pintos captured wins against Eugene and Southwest.
California's freshman girls basketball team recently captured back-to-back wins on the road. The Lady Pintos traveled to Tipton Saturday, where they snagged a 31-24 win, followed by a win at Osage Monday night.
Russellville's varsity and JV girls basketball teams were on the road Dec. 5 for games against South Callaway, where both teams captured a win.
California's varsity and JV boys basketball teams hosted Cole Camp and Eugene last week, where the Pintos claimed wins against both.
On Saturday, Dec. 3 the California speech team competed at the Cole Camp Speech Tournament.

High Point Presents "Simply Christmas"
The annual Prairie Home Christmas Festival was held Saturday, which included the annual parade and a visit from Santa and one of his elves, as well as numerous activities at Prairie Home School.
Children and the adults, along with youth, presented programs at the Christmas program service held at Friendship Baptist Church, California, Sunday, Dec. 11.
California Elementary School Students of the Week for December 9
Attendance was very good at the Christmas Concert of the California Middle School Bands held Sunday, Dec. 11, at the High School auditorium which was decorated for Christmas.
At its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 5, the City of California Board of Aldermen was informed of the receipt of a grant of $8,991 for patrol car video systems by grant writer Beth Jungmeyer.

The six-judge panel charged with drawing new House and Senate district boundaries for the Missouri Legislature on Friday filed a revised Senate plan with Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, replacing the map released Nov. 30.
Thursday, December 8
The lawyers who filed two lawsuits challenging the Legislature’s plan for redrawing Missouri’s congressional map, based on the 2010 U.S. Census, said they plan to appeal quickly to the Missouri Supreme Court.

After defeating Boonville and Blair Oaks at the Eugene Basketball Invitational last week, California's varsity girls faced top-seeded Eugene in the championship game Saturday, where the #2 seeded Lady Pintos lost to host by just four points, 43-39, to finish the tourney in second place.
The California Pintos opened the 2011-12 basketball season with a 55-42 win against St. Elizabeth Nov. 29 in first-round action of the Eugene Invitational.

California's varsity boys played Eugene Thursday in the semifinal round of the Eugene Invitational, where the top-seeded Pintos lost to the #4 seeded host, 67-52.
California's varsity girls faced Blair Oaks Thursday in the semifinal round of the Eugene Invitational, where the #2 seeded Lady Pintos defeated #3 seeded Blair Oaks in a close contest, 45-44.
