Hazardous driving in first snow of year
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
The first snow of the year, forecast as flurries, but ending up more substantial, was on the ground for the morning commuters on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
At first look, the snow was a light covering of probably less than an inch of the white stuff. Drivers out in the early hours reported the roads to be near normal. But by 7:30 a.m. the city streets were very slick. By 8 a.m. the scanner was active with reported slideoffs and a few collisions on city streets and highways in the rural areas.
Although an inch or less is supposed to fall before the snow ends, temperatures forecast in the mid to upper 30's on Wednesday, should take care of the problem.
