Cleanup Process Underway at Latham School

The process of cleaning up after the destructive fire at Latham R-V School is well underway. Although demolition of the brick walls of the 80-year-old building, removal of the concrete, rubble and debris has not yet begun, the process of cleaning the gym, built in 1951-52, and annexes is nearly complete.

The Latham school gym is almost hidden by trucks of the cleaning company restoring the building for safe use by students and staff.

One mobile classroom is set up and a second is partially set up east of the old Latham school building which is to be replaced. The students should return to classes on school grounds in about three weeks.

The cleaning crew is at work cleaning the residue of the fire, smoke and water in the Latham School gym on Wednesday, Jan. 5.
