Prairie Home Lady Panthers
The Prairie Home varsity girls hosted Calvary Lutheran Thursday, where the Lady Panthers captured a 63-23 win.
Prairie Home led 12-6 after one quarter and 36-16 at the half. The Lady Panthers outscored Calvary Lutheran 19-5 in the third quarter and 8-2 in the fourth to secure the win.
Taylor Zey led Prairie Home scoring with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Kendra Stinson followed with 18 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Krista Small and Kohlie Stock each contributed six points as well. Small had six rebounds and Stock had eight.
"We played a good game tonight and never trailed," Prairie Home Coach Scott Tooley said. "We picked up our defense in the second quarter to put the game away."
The Lady Panthers traveled to Jamestown Friday night, where Prairie Home suffered a 59-41 loss to the Lady Eagles.
"Jamestown pulled away from us in the second quarter and we couldn't catch up in the second half," Tooley said. "We cut the lead to nine in the fourth quarter, but that was as close as we could get."
Megan Morton led Prairie Home with 18 points and five rebounds. Zey followed with 11 points while leading rebounds with 14. Stinson contributed five point and six steals and Jessie Kennedy chipped in with four points and seven rebounds.
Jamestown Eagles
The Jamestown varsity boys hosted Columbia Independent Jan. 7, where the Eagles came away with the win, 58-16.
The Eagles led 20-2 after one quarter and 37-12 at the half. Jamestown outscored Columbia 16-2 in the third quarter and 5-2 in the fourth to secure the win.
""Coming off of Christmas break, we wanted a good team win and we did that tonight," Jamestown Coach Ben Marshall said. "Everyone contributed, which makes it fun as a team."
Chad Cook led Jamestown with 17 points, 14 rebounds and six steals. Andy Flippin followed with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and five steals. Seth Rohrbach chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
"CIS played a very aggressive game and pushed our boys early, but Chad had 15 of his 17 points in the first half, which helped us get the win," Marshall added. "I'm very proud of our team effort."
Jamestown hosted Prairie Home Friday, where the Eagles defeated the Panthers 57-43.
"We were down after the first quarter, but our defense stepped up the last three quarters," Marshall said. "We also got into foul trouble early, but our bench stepped up and played huge minutes and made key shots. I'm very proud of our total team effort. This is the first time since 2005 we have been .500 at this point in the season."
Will Conley and Andy Flippin led Jamestown with 14 points each. Conley grabbed seven rebounds, while Flippin had eight. Cook chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Trevor Huth led Prairie Home with 23 points.
Jamestown Lady Eagles
The Jamestown varsity girls basketball team hosted Prairie Home Friday, where the Lady Eagles came away with a 59-41 win.
"The second quarter made all of the difference for us," Jamestowon Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said. "We were able to get them in a little foul trouble and then make a good run. I also thought we played well defensively throughout. We are very proud of our girls' hard work."
Paige Reimler led Jamestown with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan Imhoff followed with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Muri chipped in with 14 points and three rebounds, while Lauren Imhoff contributed 10 points and four rebounds.
Megan Morton led Prairie Home with 18 points.
Russellville Lady Indians
The Russellville High School varsity girls basketball team participated in the 2011 South Callaway Basketball Tournament last week, where the Lady Indians ultimately finished in fourth place Saturday after losing 50-41 to New Haven.
"We didn't shoot the ball at all in the first half," Russellville Coach Mitch Gier said. "We started to play with a little intensity in the second half, but it was too little, too late. I figured we'd be a little sluggish after playing three games in three days."
Amber Duncan led Russellville with 18 points and three rebounds. Kaitlynn Siebert followed with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Previously in the first round of the tourney, Russellville, seeded third, faced North Callaway, the sixth seed, Thursday, where the Lady Indians captured a 65-53 win.
"We were kind of sloppy after not playing for six days, but we played hard defense and that made up for some of the rust," Gier said. "We lost some intensity in the second half and North Callaway hit some shots. We need to learn to just put teams away in that situation. It's nice to get a win though and to get some rest for our starters."
Duncan led Russellville with 25 points, six rebounds and three assists. Hannah Campbell followed with 16 points and five assists. Kennedy Volkart scored 13 points and had three rebounds and four blocks.
Russellville then faced Hermann, the second seed, Friday in the semifinal round, where the Lady Indians lost 68-35.
"They were a much more physical team and they pushed us around all night," Gier said. "We have to do a better job on both sides of the ball if we are going to compete against the good teams. Right now we are not doing that."
Duncan led the Lady Indians with 13 points and three rebounds. Campbell followed with six points and two assists.
Hermann went on to win the tournament championship Saturday.
