Engineer report at special California city council meeting

A special meeting of the City of California Board of Aldermen was held Monday, June 28, for the purpose of reviewing engineering reports by Bartlett and West Engineering.

The meeting was delayed due to a lack of quorum, but got underway at about 6:10 p.m.

Reports reviewed included the upcoming Highway 87 sidewalk project, the California Water System preliminary engineering report and the preliminary engineering report on the Hickory Hills/Temple Terrace Subdivision Water System.

The sidewalk project preliminary engineering report presented by Bob Gilbert and reviewed by the council is the report submitted to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) June 1 on the stimulus grant awarded for this project. The project is for a new sidewalk on the west side of Highway 87 from its intersection with Business 50 south to Lake Street. Although the project is for the sidewalk, new curbing is to be installed where it is needed. Storm sewers, utility line upgrades and low retaining wall installation will be necessary in several areas. Brackets for additional street lights on existing poles are also included in the plan.

Some changes are expected in the engineering plans, however most of the changes are expected to be the addition of more detailed information on the project including requirements for ADA accessibility.

Plans are to mark a crossing to the park and connect the trail at the park with the sidewalk

The Council plans to discuss the sidewalk project in greater depth at its July 5 meeting following a walk-through of the area.
