CMCA Head Start Celebrates 7th Annual 100-Man Lunch

On March 10, CMCA Head Start, a comprehensive childcare program offered by Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA), will host its seventh annual 100-Man Lunch event throughout Central Missouri from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event was established in 2004 to celebrate the importance of male role models in the lives of children. Because male involvement is linked to the success of pre-school age children, fathers, grandfathers and uncles are being invited to have lunch with their young family members to celebrate the influence they have had on their children. CMCA is also encouraging the participation of community leaders to provide support to the young children that may not have a positive male role model that can attend. These leaders are also invited to inspire all of our children to reach their full potential. The 100-Man Lunch will be held at nearly 20 Head Start and Early Head Start sites within the CMCA eight-county service area, which includes Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau and Osage Counties.

This event brings together men from a variety of professions including, politicians, policemen, firemen, doctors, teachers and athletes.

"Last year over 500 men ate lunch with our kids. Our goal is to have one male participant per child. As a result of recent expansions, the program is serving 724 children throughout our service area. We need the support of the communities to make this a memorable event for each of those children," Mernell King, Early Education Director for CMCA, said.
