California High School freshman Sydney Deeken competed in four events at the MSHSAA Class 2 Track and Field Championships May 20-21 at Dwight T. Reed Stadium, Jefferson City, where she finished in the top eight in three events to earn All-State honors, but more importantly, clenched the state championship in the Girls High Jump.

A number of California High School varsity tracksters finished in the top four of their event at the Class 2 District 3 track meet at Linn May 7 to earn All-District honors and advance to the Class 2 Sectional meet at Centralia Saturday, May 14, where four Pintos and one Lady Pinto qualified to advance to the State Track Championships.
