Double-X Speedway to open Sunday, May 8

The Double-X Speedway will open for the 2011 race season Sunday, May 8, with plans for an exciting racing schedule and prayers for no rain-outs.

"We've put together a pretty nice schedule with 15-point races for all three classes, including the 360 Winged Sprints, the Street Stocks and the Hobby Stocks," Double-X track owner and promoter Carol Wirts said.

"We have special nights planned for Memorial weekend, Father's Day, July 4th weekend, and the Ninth Annual Clyde Wood Memorial Race."

The season finale championship races are scheduled for Aug. 14, at which time awards will be presented and the 'fun races' including powder puffs and mechanics races will be held.

"We have the new ASCS Warrior Region Sprints scheduled for two nights," Wirts said. "After many years and many requests, the Late Models will return to the Double-X in June to kick off their Triple Crown Series. The ever popular 600cc Winged Micro Midgets will also join the action twice a month, with a few new local drivers climbing behind the wheel. B Mods will also be a guest class in June. As local interest grows, we would eventually like to add Micro Midgets full time."

Gates will open at 5 p.m. Sunday, with hot laps to begin at 7 p.m. and racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.

"We are really excited about the upcoming season and anxious to get started," Wirts said. "According to the Almanac, we're supposed to have a 'warmer and dryer than normal summer,' so we're sticking to that."
