The California High School track team competed at the Class 2 District 3 track meet at Linn Saturday, May 7, where both the Pintos and Lady Pintos finished in fourth place, while a number of California athletes finished in the top four of their event individually to earn All-District honors and advance to the Class 2 Sectional meet Saturday, May 14, at Centralia.
Blair Oaks won the girls division and Fatima won the boys division.
In the girls' division of the district meet, the following Lady Pintos earned All-District honors and advanced to Sectionals: Sydney Deeken, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump and 200 Meter; Tanner Roberts, 100 Meter and 4x400 Meter Relay; Lizzy Kirby, 3200 Meter and 4x800 Meter Relay; Karin Bolinger, 4x800 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay; Audrey Imhoff, 4x800 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay; Hanna Carpenter, 4x800 Meter Relay; and Lesa Langlotz, 4x400 Meter Relay.
"Coach Matzes' gang of jumpers dominated the meet," California Coach Rick Edwards said. "We had seven jumpers qualify for the Sectional meet. Sydney had a nice 200 Meter race. There are three girls who were within a yard of each other and she pulled out the win. All of our relays on the boys' and girls' side pointed."
