Shikles bound over to Circuit Court

Jon Travis Shikles, 26, was bound over to Moniteau County Circuit Court on Tuesday, May 17, after waiving Preliminary Hearing in Associate Circuit Court, presided over by Associate Judge Peggy Richardson.

He is set to appear Friday, June 17, for arraignment before Judge Stanley Moore in Moniteau County Circuit Court on a charge of Second Degree Murder, a Class A Felony, for the alleged beating death of Travis Dean Higgins, 31, California. He remains free on $50,000 bond.

The charge was filed April 8, following investigation into the death of Higgins, whose body was found about 7 a.m. April 7 at the edge of an alley in the 400 block of Stella Street, less than three blocks from the Courthouse Square.

The investigation was conducted by Missouri Highway Patrol investigators which were called to assist the California Police Department and the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department.

If convicted on this charge of Class A Felony Second Degree Murder, Shikles could face from 10 - 30 years or life in prison.
