The California Pintos faced Southern Boone in first-round action at the Class 3 District 9 Baseball Tournament May 16 at Ashland, where they lost 5-1 to end the season 8-7.

"Like most of our games this season, it was our pitching that kept us in this game with a chance to win," California Coach Dwight Fitzwater said. "We weren't able to produce runs to pull the game out. We only had two hits and you're not going to win many games with that. Our opponent only had three hits, but one was a three-run homerun that did us in."

After two scoreless innings, Southern Boone, seeded fifth, brought one run home in the third inning to lead 1-0. The Pintos, seeded fourth, answered with one run in the third inning as well, with Jason Woody starting the hits off with a single. Corey Kramel followed with a double that drove Woody home to even the score at 1-1.
