California City Hall closed Friday, no trash pickup

Because of the Veterans Day holiday on Friday, Nov. 11, California City Hall will be closed and there will be no trash pickup.

At the regular monthly meeting of the City of California Board of Aldermen on Monday, Nov. 7, health insurance was the only new business item on the agenda

Jeanie Cunningham of Mike Keith Insurance, Inc., brought several proposals for employee health insurance to the city. The current insurance through Anthem would have been an 11 percent increase.

The council approved a combination insurance plan through United Health Care which permits the employee to choose either a traditional PPO or a Health Savings Account. The city will save an estimated $24,211 over the Anthem plan with the increase.
