Flying the American flag on 9/11

As the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks known as 9/11 rolls around on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at least some Americans plan to observe the event by displaying the "Stars and Stripes."

Memories will abound of the first major foreign attack of war on the U.S. mainland, and probably the most costly in civilian lives. As the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 was a "Day That Will Live in Infamy," so should the 9/11 attacks be.

In many ways, the 9/11 attacks were worse than Pearl Harbor. In part because America's own technology was turned against the country and in part because the terrorists chose to bring their wrathful anger down on civilian targets.
