Deer hunting seasons and regulations have changed

Some changes have been announced in deer hunting regulations for 2011-12, including some changes in legal seasons.

Specifically, the early youth hunting portion of the season is later this year and unlimited anterless deer permits are available in more counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the seasons and regulations for deer hunting in Missouri for 2011-12 are similar to the regulations last year.

• Archery Season

The archery deer season will begin Sept. 15 and run through Nov. 11, then from Nov. 23 through Jan. 15, 2012, statewide. The limit is two deer of either sex, except that only one antlered deer may be taken before the November portion of the firearms season. Additional deer may be taken on Archery Antlerless Deer permits in certain counties.

Unlimited Archery Antlerless Permits are now available in Bollinger, Madison and Wayne counties.

Holders of concealed carry weapon permits and qualified active or retired law enforcement officers may carry those weapons while archery hunting.

• Modern Firearms Season

Firearms deer seasons are more complicated.

An Urban Zone deer season runs from Oct. 7-10 in select zones. For that season there is a limit of one antlerless deer per any-deer or antlerless deer permit.
