146th Moniteau County Fair past
Wednesday, August 15, 2012
Attendance was good at the 146th Moniteau County Fair, probably helped by a slight break in the heat. Following the record-breaking heat of July, the last few days of the fair were much cooler for fairgoers and event participants
The many smaller fair events, such as the halter calf show, washer board competition, horseshoe pitching and hay hauling, draw their own audiences and participants. The bigger events brought more people willing to pay the gate fee.
Monday's MMTTPA Tractor Pull and Saturday's Mid-America Tractor Pullers Association event drew many competitors and fans of tractor pulling events as did Wednesday's Motor Cross event; Thursday's Demolition Derby and Compact Derby; Friday's Compact Figure 8 Scramble and Tuff Truck Challenge.
As the temperature moderated on Saturday, it was more comfortable for participants and audience alike for that days events which included the Baby Show and the Antique Tractor Pull in the Main Arena, the Junior Ham Auction in the cattle barn, and the Martin's Bluegrass Music in Sappington Arena. The Drifters opened for the Martins.
Tuesday, a free night, featured the Miss Moniteau County Queen Contest and Little Mr. and Miss Moniteau Contest.
Cold pop, lemon and limeade and cool treats drew many customers in addition to the Kiwanis breakfast, the Cattlemen's Steaks and the usual funnel cakes, burgers, tacos and variety of other food items.
