"Our kids played with good intensity," California Head Coach Marty Albertson said. "It took us three or four plays to get going in our first series against Moberly, but then we were okay. We scored twice and only gave up one first down. Then we scored four times against Owensville. Our defense didn't give up much at all. Most importantly, we got through it without any injuries and we got to see live game action. We will review the film, look at our mistakes and be ready to go Friday."

The Pintos will host Boonville for their season opener at 7 p.m. Friday at Riley Field. Prior to kickoff, the Parade of Champions featuring the Pinto football players will begin at 5:45 p.m. State Representative Caleb Jones will host a tailgate cookout prior to the game, 5-7 p.m., at the California Nutrition Center, 107 West Versailles Ave. The event is open to the public at no charge.
