Jamestown opens with loss to Tipton

The Jamestown Lady Eagles were at home Thursday for their first game of the 2012 softball season, where they suffered a 9-0 loss to the Tipton Lady Cardinals.
Stephanie Birkmann pitched five innings for Jamestown and recorded seven strikeouts. Alli Muri pitched two innings with two strikeouts.
Muri led Jamestown hits with a single.
Jamestown's JV defeated Tipton 5-4.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Otterville Friday, where they captured a 4-2 win. Jamestown scored one run in the third inning and three in the seventh to lead 4-0. Otterville managed two runs in the seventh to trail 4-2.
"Otterville has a good pitcher, so offense was tough," Jamestown Coach E.H. Hirschvogel said.
"But we got some clutch hits at the end."
Birkmann recorded the win for Jamestown with five strikeouts.

had a single and one RBI, while Lexi Muri chipped in with a single.
The Lady Eagles participated in the Tipton Tournament Saturday, where they defeated Tuscumbia 9-4 in the opening round.
Birkmann recorded the win with four strikeouts. Mackenzie Strother led hits with a double and three RBI. Mickayla Strother followed with a single and two RBI.
Jamestown then lost 8-1 to Eldon, to advance to the third-place game against Tipton, where the Lady Eagles lost 5-2 to finish the tourney in fourth place.
"We played Tipton a lot tougher today than we did a couple of days ago," Hirschvogel said. "As a matter of fact, we had more team hits in this game than any game so far this season."
Muri led Jamestown bats with two doubles and one RBI. Eschenbrenner followed with two singles and one RBI. Mickayla Strother contributed two singles, and Mackenzie Strother had a single as well.
"Overall, I was pleased with the team's performance in the tournament," Hirschvogel said. "We are improving each game and that's all I can ask of the girls."
Jamestown will host Prairie Home at 5 p.m. Thursday.
