A major storm system is bringing snow and very strong winds to parts of Mid-Missouri today.
The National Weather Service reports the combination of wind and snow will make travel hazardous across portions of northern Missouri and west-central Illinois. Meanwhile, portions of west-central, central and east-central Missouri as well as south-central Illinois will receive lighter snow accumulation and strong winds that still may make travel difficult.
There's a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 o'clock this evening for much of Mid-Missouri. A period of light to moderate snowfall is forecast with accumulations from 1 to 3 inches expected in the region which includes Jefferson City, Fulton, California, Versailles, Sedalia, Boonville and Columbia. Farther into northeast Missouri may receive up to 5 inches, while areas closer to and south of Interstate 44, including Camdenton and Rolla, are forecast to receive little or no accumulation.
There's also a Wind Advisory in effect until 6 o'clock this evening for most of Missouri. Winds will range from 30 to 40 mph from the northwest, with gusts up to 50 mph.
