For over 10 years Friendship Baptist Church, California, has held AWANA for children on Wednesday. AWANA is a program for children ages two through sixth grade which includes singing, Bible study, crafts and games. Children earn awards and badges for studying and memorizing the Bible. Roberta Elliott has been the AWANA Director for Friendship for most of the time the program has been at the church.

"AWANA is a nice program because it is not something which takes a lot of effort from teachers especially," Elliott said. "You have a program book and you get to help the children learn and memorize the verses and learn what they mean. It is a nice flowing program. We have included a light supper and other things like Christmas caroling."
