Lady Indians lose district opener to Eugene

Russellville played Eugene in first-round action Monday night at the Class 3 District 10 Girls Basketball Tournament at Versailles, where the Lady Indians lost a close contest to the Lady Eagles, 51-47.

Eugene, seeded fourth, led 13-10 after the first quarter and 23-20 at the half, however, Russellville, seeded fifth, had evened the score at 34-34 after three quarters. Amber Duncan nailed a 3-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter to put the Lady Indians on top 37-34. Russellville held the lead until 2:43 remained, when Eugene's Miranda White hit two free throws to put the Lady Eagles back on top 42-41. Eugene stayed on top to the end to take the win.

Duncan led Russellville with 20 points, followed by Kennedy Volkart with 14 and A.J. Grellner with 12.
