Local schools approve required policies on student / teacher safety

Local school boards have approved a policy on student/staff relations customized to the district's needs and conditions. This meets the requirements of recent state legislation aimed to ensure that communication and interaction between students and staff remain on a professional level.

The policies are a result of what is known as the Amy Hestir Student Protection Act, which was designed to protect children from inappropriate contact with teachers.

With the assistance of an overall policy developed by the Missouri School Board Association (MSBA), each school board has implemented a written policy to comply with the new state requirements. The California R-I approved customized policies at its regular January board meeting, and Tipton R-VI did so as its February meeting.
