Approximately 52 area youth in grades 1-6 attended the annual Junior Pinto Football Camp May 29-31 at the California Middle School practice field, where they learned basic fundamentals of football, such as passing, receiving and blocking.

The camp was directed by CMS Football Coach Ed Ziegs, who was assisted by CMS Coaches Scott Loring, Don delRosario, Andy Bieri and David Austin, and Jess Medlin and Chris Imhoff. Pinto football players Alex Dalbey, John Wolken, and Cory Friedmeyer also assisted with coaching.

Ziegs said, "The money we raise from this camp will go towards California Middle School football, and with recent cutbacks, we really need and appreciate the funds."

Ziegs added, "We're excited Coaches David Austin and Andy Bieri have joined the CMS coaching staff this season. Coach Austin, a new Latham School faculty member, came on strictly as a volunteer and we're happy to have him. He was a receiver and quarterback coach at South Callaway. Of course, we will miss Coach Bob Staton.
