Kixmiller retires after six years at PHS

Prairie Home School teacher Nancy Kixmiller is retiring after six years of dedicated service as the Music Director.

Kixmiller came to PHS after teaching music for 24 years at Lawson Middle School. (Lawson is a small town north of Kansas City.)

"It took me a while to settle in at Prairie Home because I followed long-time teacher Mary Lou Bieri and those were some tough shoes to fill," Kixmiller said. "She was the only music teacher most of the students had ever had, so it was a difficult adjustment for all of us. But we got through it. I started a tradition during my first year: any student who got a I Rating at the District Music Contest, I would buy them dessert the day of the State Music Contest. I'm happy to say I had to buy dessert every year!"
