Jamestown C-1 School Board Meets

The Jamestown C-1 School Board held its regular monthly meeting on May 10.

A maintenance walk-through was conducted to examine the exterior of the building and grounds. There were some cosmetic and small maintenance/construction projects noted for completion during the summer.

The resignation of Dennis Davis was accepted.

The PTO report was presented by Chris Rutledge, who is the newly elected president of the PTO. She reported the PTO has elected new leadership and has some playground projects in mind for the coming year.

The principals' reports were given by Ellen Ash and Matt McDannold. The principals reported there was little interest in the transportation option at parent cost, to California Summer School.

McDannold reported the school has received a $15,000 special education grant for use at the elementary level for professional development and another $15,000 special education grant for use at the secondary level for post-secondary transition.

A $25,000 grant has been written and submitted which would allow the district to replace the computers in the computer lab which have become outdated and unreliable.

In old business it was reported there will be no transportation provided to the California Summer School.

Also due to lack of interest the district will not be offering a cross-country team.

The school district long range planning motion by John Jones was discussed and a planning committee, comprised of 9-12 individuals, will be assembled. The committee will include the school administration, representatives of the school board, faculty and community members.

There was a parent concern presented to the Board of smoking outside the building at school functions.

Emily Higgins was hired as middle school math and science teacher and JoAnn Bestgen was hired for school nurse/aide position.
