California fireworks cancelled - burn ban in force until further notice

"The California Fireworks show has been cancelled and there is a burn ban in force in California until further notice," said California Fire Chief Allen Smith Friday, June 29. "The heat and drought continue. There is no relief in sight."

This is ban on any open burning.

Smith also reminded residents that shooting of fireworks is prohibited in the city limits by an Ordinance of the City of California.

The extremely dry conditions have made any kind of sparks or flames or fireworks even more risky this year. Smith advises residents to be careful as the extreme heat and dry conditions continue to dry the vegetation out making them easily ignitable.

Because of the extra fire hazard caused by dry conditions, the California Police Department is stepping up enforcement of the no fireworks ordinance.

Be cautious in this dry weather for the safety of homes and other property as well as the safety and protection of the firefighters.
