Seven members of the Prairie Home School varsity softball team were recently named to the Academic All-State softball teams by the Missouri High School Softball Coaches' Association. Front row, from left, are Taylor Zey, Kendra Stinson and Kohlie Stock, who were named to the first team; and back row, Krista Small, Brooke Emmerich and Amber Carmichael, who were named to the first team; and Kimberly Hettinger, who was named to the second team. In order to qualify to be named to to the first team, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.88-4.0 and must be a varsity letter winner. The Prairie Home School Academic Team competed at the CCAA Scholar Bowl Tournament March 5 at Jamestown, and finished in second place. Individually, Prairie Home's Josey Stevens finished in second place, while Damon Wendt placed fifith. Prairie Home was among 13 schools competing at the California High School Math Contest Feb. 18, where a number of PHS students earned a ribbon or medal for finishing in the top of their event. Other participating schools in Division 1 were Smithton, Sacred Heart, Stover, Lincoln, Northwest and LaMonte.
