Cole County R-1 School Board Meets

The Cole County R-1 School Board held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 10.
Under new business, the Board adopted the agenda, administrators presented their reports and voted to approve the consent agenda as presented. The Board approved a payroll fund transfer of $190,000.
The Board approved the election results for new Board members. Debbie Malzner had 196 votes; Jerry Schulte, 145 votes; and Kurt Brewer, 96 votes. The new Board members were sworn in and elections were held for the Board offices. Kris Kirchner was elected as Board president, William Kautsch as vice president/treasurer and Malzner as secretary.
District Superintendent Jerry Hobbs provided a report about the Track Project. The third phase of the the project was awarded to Meyer Electrical to do the lighting and electrical work. The supplies and materials have been ordered and this phase of the project should be complete by the end of the summer. The marquee sign should be installed by the end of May.
The Board voted to approve the Special Services report as presented. The Board also approved having summer school from June 4-15 and an agreement with the City of Russellville to turn over the ownership of the fire hydrants located on the high school property. In doing so, the city will flush and maintain them.
In closed session, the Board voted to employ Tina Sellner to teach a college level class next year, and Alisha LePage and Jason Twenter as vocational agriculture teachers for next year. The Board voted to employ the coaches as presented by Heath Waters, athletic director.
The May Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 24.
