City Council approves Mayor Pro-Tem, hires power supply consultant

The City of California City Board of Aldermen elected a Mayor Pro-Tem as part of the after-election reorganization Monday, May 7, at its regular monthly meeting. Lanny Ash was unanimously elected to the position. The council followed this action with the re-election of Brian Scrivner to the position of City Clerk. Mayor Norris Gerhart re-appointed all department heads.

In another item of business, Robert Harbour, representing Harbour Consulting, Inc., gave a presentation on his firm's work of procuring contracts for electric power for cities. Harbour, an engineer, has a lengthy history of working for and with power companies. He has worked with several entities in Missouri, including the city of Hannibal.

Following the presentation and a question and answer session, the council approved hiring the firm to work as an electric contract consultant for the city.

His work is expected to result in lower electric costs for the city of California. His fee will be less than $5,000.
