2012 Taxes - Moniteau County

The 2012 Moniteau County taxes will be mailed out Friday, Nov. 2, 2012. The real estate tax to be collected for 2012 amounts to $6,122,504.73 and the personal tax will be $2,197,714.53. Railroad and Utility tax is $1,457,807.76. As of March 1, 2012, the back tax book showed $649,263.98 still on the books. Over 50 percent of these have been collected. This amount includes real estate and personal for three back years.

The Collector's Office also collects for the Overton-Wooldridge Levee District. There are eight taxpayers in Moniteau County which pay into this district. The amount due is $8,203.50. The Missouri Conservation Department pays $6,133.28 in lieu of tax. The Collector's Office also collects for Merchant and or Manufacturer's licenses. The licenses are $25 and another $25 if the business also is a manufacturer. To obtain your merchant's licenses, you need to bring a copy of the state sales tax number from Department of Revenue. Merchant's licenses are required to be displayed in the business. The Missouri Department of Revenue may randomly check to see that the business is in compliance with the laws. Moniteau County collects over 350 licenses. The Collector's Office is also responsible for collecting and issuing auctioneer licenses. These run $52 annually. You may get an auctioneer license for one month up to a year.

All bills, including those in escrow by the mortgage companies, are sent to the taxpayer. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to see that the real estate bills are forwarded on to their mortgage company. Real Estate and Personal bills are two separate bills and are both due Dec. 31 of the year. If not paid by Dec. 31, there are penalties, which are added to the bill. You may also pay your tax bill by credit card. There is a charge of 3.9 percent passed on by the credit card company.

Forms are mailed out with the tax bills. When mailing in your bill, be sure to mail the whole page and we will mail back a receipt stamped "paid." If you owe prior year's taxes, the delinquent years will print on front of the bill. We cannot accept the current year's taxes until all back taxes are paid first. If you have delinquent taxes for 2010 in real estate, these taxes will be coming up for the annual tax sale, which is held every fourth Monday in August. To avoid a tax sale these taxes need to be paid by July 1 to avoid a tax sale.

The Moniteau County Collector's Office collects for all the cities in the county.

The office hours for the Collector's Office are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cheryl Duvall is County Collector and Brenda Hickman is employed as Deputy Collector. Connie Lovett is working part time through the tax season.
