California Area Chamber of Commerce votes to assist Historical Society

Representatives from the Moniteau County Historical Society, Pam Green and Carl Gatlin, gave an informative presentation on the progress of the new building being erected for the Genealogy Library. This library is widely known because of its vast storage and wealth of information. The library brings positive attention to California. This project began in the winter of 2010. An estimated $109,500 will be needed to completely build and furnish a 60' by 24' attachment to the current structure which will include a basement. The Historical Society has raised approximately $94,900 and is still in need of approximately $14,600. Brad Baer made a motion the Chamber donate $7,000 from the Ozark Ham & Turkey funds to this building project. Charlie Roll seconded. Motion carried.
Minutes from the Oct. 11, board meeting, the treasurer's report and secretary's report were reviewed and approved.
In old business a letter was received from California Progress, Inc., thanking the Chamber for the donation to the Missouri Main Street Connection program.
Roll stated the California Eagles raised and will be presenting a $500 check to the California High School DECA organization.
In new business Melissa Bonecutter presented a printed copy of the proposed budget for 2013. The budget will be voted on at the December 2012 Board meeting.
President Norris Gerhart will work with the Nominating Committee and present a slate of officers for 2013 which will be approved at the Annual Dinner meeting, Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.
During committee reports Dolores Burger, Annual Dinner Chairperson, stated the Nutrition Center will be the site of the annual dinner, Ben Dugan will be the auctioneer, Roberta Rothstein will handle computing the auctions and bids were being accepted to provide the meal.
Each Board member was given a copy of the Volunteer of the Year Award description and nomination form.
Burger reported Christmas California Style flyers for local businesses offering special events on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1, were available. If businesses would like copies of this flyer please contact the Chamber office.
Parade and house decorating contest information is being printed in the California Democrat. If you have questions please contact the Chamber office.
The Kiwanis will be decorating the historic light poles Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 8:45 a.m. They need volunteers of two-person teams to help with this endeavor. Persons interested can contact the Chamber office.
Following a closed session to discuss personnel the chamber adjourned. The next regular meeting will be held at 8 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13.
