Two Lady Indians advance to State Golf Championships

Three members of the Russellville High School varsity girls golf team, Kelsey Schrimpf, Mikala Jungmeyer and Madilyn Bungart, were among the top 15 individual finishers at the Class 1 District 2 Golf Tournament Oct. 2 at Dogwood Hills Golf Resort, Osage, to advance to Class 1 Sectionals Monday, Oct. 8, at Eldon Country Club, where Jungmeyer and Schrimpf qualified to advance to the

Class 1 State Golf Championships.

Jungmeyer finished sectional play in 10th place with 91, while Schrimpf finished 14th with 93. Bungart placed 49th with 134.

Previously at the district tournament Oct. 2, Russellville finished third as a team with 426, behind Osage in first place with 409 and California in second place with 424. (The top two teams advance to sectionals, along with the next top 15 individual finishers.)

Schrimpf finished the district tourney in second place individually with 87; Jungmeyer, third with 92; and Bungart, 21st with 116. Schrimpf and Jungmeyer earned All-District honors.

Russellville's Madison Oliver finished 37th with 131, and Hannah Michitsch placed 41st with 138.

"We were only two strokes away from qualifying for sectionals as a team," Russellville Coach Gayla Spencer said.

Schrimpf and Jungmeyer will compete a the Class 1 State Golf Championships Oct. 15-16 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club, New Bloomfield.
