Fatal crash on Highway 87

A two vehicle collision on Highway 87 resulted in a fatality for one driver and serious injuries to the other. The collision occurred at 5:15 p.m. three-tenths of a mile north of Route F.
Traffic was blocked on Highway 87 from the four-lane Highway 50 overpass to just north of Route C for about two hours.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Volkswagon Beetle, driven southbound by Gregory W. Roberds, Russellville, crossed the centerline and struck head on a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, driven northbound by Joyce A. Zimmerman, California.
Roberds was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:34 p.m. His vehicle, the VW Beetle was reported to have caught on fire following the collision. It was totaled. The report indicated he was not wearing a seat belt.
Zimmerman was transported to University Hospital, Columbia, with serious injuries. Her Chevrolet was reported totaled. The report indicated she was wearing a seat belt.
This was listed as Troop F fatality number 52.
