Christmas California Style is coming to town on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Everyone plan to spend one or both days in California to shop and enjoy the festival activities.
The festival will begin on Friday with local gift shops hosting open houses, offering refreshments, prize drawings and discounts. If you do not get full at the gift shops, no need to go home to eat - visit your favorite local restaurant for lunch or dinner. Some will be offering discounts as well.
On Saturday, the open houses will continue along with other events to include wine tasting, cookies and baked goods, the children's activities at Wood Place Library. The Finke Theatre will be open on Saturday for pre-ordered poinsettia pickups and the Holiday Variety Show will be on the stage Saturday evening. California Eagles Fraternal Order will host a children's Christmas party for their members only on Saturday afternoon followed by dinner and entertainment on Saturday evening that will be open to the public.
The annual Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by the Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the courthouse lawn. Parade float winners will be announced. Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet and treat children at the Commerce Bank while the California High School "Sounds of Joy" sing Christmas carols. The chamber will provide a photo op for children with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The cost for a 4x6 photo in folder will be $2.
The outside house and yard decoration judging has been moved to later in the month. Judging will take place Dec. 13-15 from 5-10 p.m. By delaying the judging, the chamber board hopes to have more entries. To participate in the contest, please contact Diane at the chamber office 796-3040 or email email@example.com.
To stay in touch with all the events planned, read articles and ads in the California Democrat during the month of November. If you, your business or organization would like to be a part of the festival, please notify Dolores Burger at 796-2220 or firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. You need not be a chamber member to participate.
Christmas California Style is sponsored by the California Area Chamber of Commerce. The festival committee consists of Dolores Burger of Burgers' Smokehouse, Hope Hollering representing Putnam's Chevrolet, Robin Ratcliff of The Flower Shop for All Occasions, Paula Earls of the California Democrat, President Norris Gerhart and Executive Secretary Diane Eulinger.
