Friday, Oct. 19, Kiwanis President Eugene Wickham presented Andrea Johnson and Velvia Fortenberry with a $200 check to assist with Pinto Packs.
Pinto Packs are the buddy pack version of assistance for middle school students.
The California Middle School at-risk committee started the program called Pinto Packs for middle school students needing food for the weekends.
The Pinto Packs will be offered to families based on referrals from middle school staff.
The price for the Pinto Packs are $10 a week, per student. Currently, CMS offers the packs to four families due to funds, but as the year goes on, they plan to provide them to more families. Wickham also stated "The Kiwanis will be willing to make additional contributions if they are needed."
According to Johnson, all funds for the middle school Pinto Packs will be provided through funds raised by the At-Risk committee. They have received private donations and are conducting fundraisers.
A Pizza Night will be held at the California Pizza Hut Monday, Oct. 29, from 4-8. For additional information or to make a contribution contact Andrea Johnson or Velvia Fortenberry at the California Middle School.
