California ends season with district loss to Blair Oaks

California faced #2 seeded Blair Oaks in the semifinal round of the Class 2 District 7 Volleyball Tournament Oct. 23 at Russellville High School, where the #3 seeded Lady Pintos lost a hard-fought match to the Lady Falcons, 16-25 and 19-25, to end the season.

Sydney Deeken led California with five kills, five blocks and six serves. Abby Lueckenotte had nine assists, two digs and five serves. Madilyn Safley had four digs and 10 serves. Paige Halsey had four kills, two blocks and four serves, and Caitlin Meyer had eight digs and five serves.

Blair Oaks advanced to the district championship match Oct. 23, where the Lady Falcons lost to top-seeded Fatima 15-25 and 6-25.

California's Deeken and Meyer were each named to the Class 2 District 7 All-District volleyball teams. Deeken was named to the first team, Meyer to the second team.

Also receiving All-District honors were: first team - Fatima's Joanna Muenks (MVP), and Brianna Kempker; Blair Oaks' Amanda Rackers and Riley Butler; and Tipton's Grace Stonner; second team - Fatima's Morgan Bax and Chelsea Skidmore; Blair Oaks' Amanda Kiso and Danielle Lueckenhoff; and Russellville's Kennedy Volkart.

Previously at the district tournament, California defeated Tipton 25-21 and 25-9 in first round action Monday, Oct. 22.

Deeken led California with nine kills, six blocks, eight digs and eight serves including three aces. Halsey had four kills, one block and nine serves including one ace. Lueckenotte had eight assists, three digs and four serves. Safley had three kills and 11 serves. Walters had nine assists and five serves including one ace, and Meyer had four kills, four digs and eight serves.

California ends the season 15-11-2.
