Cedron celebrates 175th anniversary

Twenty years after closing as a regular mission church, Cedron will host a Welcome Back with Mass celebrated at noon Sunday, Aug. 18. The Friends of Cedron expect all 24 pews to be filled as they celebrate the 175th anniversary of Assumption Catholic Church, founded by Father Ferdinand Helias. Not since the church’s last Mass in 2004 has the church been filled to capacity. Bishop John Gaydos has been invited and a Papal Blessing from Pope Francis is on its way. Both the governor and state legislative branches have issued proclamations and resolutions. A special postcard featuring the church will be used for stamp cancellations that day. An ice cream and cake reception will follow. On the Web: www.cedronchurch.org
