Charged with theft of firearm

A felony firearm stealing charge was filed in Moniteau County Court on July 29. Brandon L. Maresh, 18, no residence given, charged with Class C Felony Theft / Stealing of Any Firearm.

According to court documents, Maresh is alleged to have taken a .22 cal. handgun from a Moniteau County residence in the Russellville area. The defendant is alleged to have gone into a bedroom between 3 and 9 a.m. July 19 and took the firearm from a nightstand. He then is reported to have, with another person, buried the firearm near a residence in another county. It was then allegedly dug up and given to another person who allegedly returned it to a family member of the owner.

If convicted on this charge, the defendant could face up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Bond has been set at $10,000.
